Adopting from Animal Care
To ensure each animal is rehomed with someone who meets their needs, we run on an appointment only basis. We want all the animals in our care to find their perfect home. For that to happen, we have to consider their needs as well as yours.
How to adopt an animal from Animal Care
- Visit the centre any day between 10 and 3 to complete an application form and have a chat with the staff about what you are looking for - you don’t need to make an appointment at this stage. Please note you won’t be able to view the animals on the same day, as the animal manager has to review all the applications first, but if there are any animals you are particularly interested in you can let us know at this stage. It will no longer be possible to do applications over the phone.
- The manager will review your application and if she feels you are a good match for a dog/cat you will be invited to make an appointment to come and meet it.
CATS:
- You will be given the opportunity to meet the cat and spend time with it. If you decide it’s the right cat for you, you will be able to reserve it.
- A home checker will then visit you at home to check your house is right for the cat you are interested in.
- We ask a minimum donation of £75 for your cat to offset some of the costs we pay, as they are all vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, wormed and defleaed. If they haven’t had everything done when you adopt them – sometimes they will need a second vaccination, or are too young to be neutered - you will be provided with a voucher from Bay Vets.
DOGS:
- You will be given the opportunity to walk the dog and spend time with it. If you decide it’s the right dog for you, you will be able to reserve it.
- We ask that adopters come and visit the dog 3 times promptly within a 5-7 day period. This is so you can bond with the dog and it’s not going home with a stranger.
- A home checker will then visit you at home to check your garden/yard is secure for the dog you are interested in.
- You will then take your dog home for a week’s trial and if you are happy with the way the trial works out, you can adopt the dog at the end of the week.
- We ask a minimum donation of £150 for your dog to offset some of the costs we pay, as they are all vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, wormed and defleaed. If they haven’t had everything done when you adopt them – sometimes they will need a second vaccination, or are too young to be neutered - you will be provided with a voucher from Bay Vets.
Please note we can receive dozens of applications for the same cats & dogs. If you haven’t heard from us within 7 days of applying, we’re sorry to say your application has been unsuccessful this time.
